THE MAN WILL NOT REST
The she said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know how the matter turns out; for the man will not rest until he has settled it today.” Ruth 3:18
Are you someone who tends to stew over situations? Do you find yourself marinating over life at night instead of sleeping?
My whole life, I’ve been told that I think too much. While I don’t think too much, because that is how God made me, I do admit, however, that I over think certain situations, at times. In school, I dreaded multiple choice tests because I could talk myself out of every answer. Essay questions were so much easier because my answer could be more subjective. This translates to real life. Instead of making decisions, I could worry myself into a standstill. That, in and of itself is a choice. If we seek God’s guidance, then we will know when to rest, when to wait… We will know when to be proactive.
After Ruth returned to Naomi after seeing Boaz at the threshing floor, Naomi said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know how the matter turns out; for the man will not rest until he has settled it today.” Ruth was proactive when Naomi advised her, but in that moment, it was yet another time to wait. The good news was that they knew their fate would be decided by the end of that day. We know from God’s Word that He never sleeps. He doesn’t need to. And since He is vigilant on our behalf, we can rest. We don’t benefit anyone by stewing all night. If we can’t sleep, then we can pray. And if we pray, we know that our Savior hears us.
Dear Heavenly Father
My soul feels weary from the burdens that I carry. I choose to hand them over to You. I choose to rest in You until these calamities have passed me by. I thank You that the battle is already won, so I can hide myself in the shadow of Your wings. In Jesus Precious Name, Amen
